Laser printer manufacturer Brother is lending a helping hand to California residents who have lost their homes in the recent fires, it has emerged.

The company reveals that it is to provide financial assistance to residents of South California affected by the fires.

Some $20,000 (£9,590) is to be distributed via the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York.

Meanwhile, recent financial figures from the firm show an increase of nearly ten per cent in sales of laser printers, inkjet printers and related products.

A boost of 9.9 per cent was recorded year-on-year for the six months to September when compared with the same period in 2006.

This equates to net sales of some $1.7 million during the half-year period, the firm asserts.

Products which contribute to the total are grouped under the banner term of Printing and Solutions.

This incorporates fax machines and typewriters alongside all varieties of
printer, Brother explains.
